Tip #43: How To Create An Anxiety-Busting Playlist

Tip #43: Make an anti-anxiety playlist.

The why: You know when you’re sad, and feel like feeling sad, so you put sad music on to feel sadder?

The reason you can go from mild sniffles to hysterical wailing in a few minutes after listening to a morose song isn’t just because of a psychological connection to the lyrics about lost loves or all the mistakes of youth. It’s also a physiological one.

IMG_4864.PNGThis is because the part of the brain that processes things like rhythm, pitch and timbre is also home to your emotional core.

Music literally changes things inside of your brain and directly affects your mood.

Some studies have even gone as far as to show that the music you listen to affects the way your brain sees and processes the world.

If you listen to upbeat, happy music, you see the world in a much more positive way.

On study even found that listening to upbeat music, and only upbeat music, significantly improved their patient’s mood in just two weeks.

Now, I’m not saying music is some miracle cure for anxiety, but it can certainly help.

So, when you have a few spare moments, I would highly recommend making an inspiring, happy, upbeat, trashy, fun, playlist that gets you groovin’!

(Wow I am so uncool).

Here is a section of mine:

Include the music that always makes you smile, music that encourages you, music that makes you see the world in a positive light.

Whenever you feel anxious, get lost in music.

  1. My go-to song is “Better When I’m Dancing” by Meghan Trainor.

I also adore the song “Unstoppable” by Sia – so much so, that I got a tattoo of the word “unstoppable” down my neck!

I’d love to see the rest of your playlist, I’m always looking to add to mine (it’s only about 20 songs or so).

    1. Listening to Sia I’m pretty sure will one day be scientifically proven to change lives! That’s such a great idea for a tattoo! It’s good to have reminders around us 🙂 Sure thing, I’ve just put the link on Twitter. I’d love to hear what other songs you’ve put on yours.
